Brantford City Councillor Visits Laurier Brantford!(Post in The Making)
Brantford City Councillor John Starkey, spoke today for a journalism class at Laurier Brantford about a couple of issues surrounding the teens in Brantford. He has been a Municipal Politician since the age of 23 in 1978. On top of being a Politician he writes a column that is called "In My Opinion", that he started because the Expositor wanted a "change". He won awards for his column as it was shown to be the most widely read by readers in a survey taken. Regarding the teens of Brantford, Starkey said that he would like to see a skatepark put in somewhere for teens who like to skateboard. There have been different groups fighting for it over the last ten years now and he thinks that it promotes good health and keeping active. He also thinks that it may be a good way to keep kids away from drugs and alcohol.

Biography of My Life This Far:
Written by Ashleigh Pruden

Bobbi Horlock is a 20 year old self-described workaholic who, on top of attending Wilfrid Laurier University full time, holds two part-time jobs. While working as a bartender at the Brantford Golf and Country Club and a shift manager at KFC, Bobbi, an avid reader, also manages to find time to read up to three novels at a time on top of a full course load of readings. Bobbi also manages to distribute her time between the two loves of her life; her long time boyfriend of six years Chris and her beloved German Shepard cross Bruno, who she describes as “the second biggest love of my life”. After graduating from Pauline Johnson Collegiate in 2003 Bobbi returned to complete an additional year of courses. Currently in first year of university Bobbi already has high aspirations for her future as she plans to become a high level prosecutor in the judicial system. She says she chose the route of a prosecutor over the more lucrative career as a defence attorney because of her morality and the inability to lie to protect a client. Bobbi is a highly ambitious and motivated student whose well-rounded time management and prioritizing shows a dedication which is so often lacking in today’s youth.

Journalism Guild 2005 at Laurier Brantford!
The first guild meeting for journalism students was held today to inform journalism students of upcoming events and to get the students thinking of where they would like the future of the guild to go. They outlined many appealing advantages to being a part of the guild and also informed those at the meeting that you do not have to be a Journalism major to take part. The cost is only 75 dollars for the entire year and this membership provides access to lots of professional equipment used in television broadcasting and much more. This membership also assures your involvement in activities such as movie nights and a halloween party was also spoke of. It sounds like a fun and refreshing guild for anyone to be involved in, so come out and meet new people and have a blast doing it!

The Faculty of WLU Hold a Writing Seminar to Help the Students Better their Skills:
On September 19, 2005, there was a very helpful writing seminar held to guide students though writing the "perfect" paper. Since the seminar was lead by the faculty themselves, students should have no problems handing in that "A" paper which will help in achieving their success. Heard from was Angela Madden, and Kate Carter who spoke on editing methods, also David Pascal, who spoke on paragraph writing. Later there was Lisa Wood who touched on thesis writing, and Susan Hill, who talked about time management. After the essay writing seminar there was an hour of helpful tips about referencing and editing, which was where I received the bulk of the information that would help me. This seminar is a great tool that all first year students should take advantage of, it can really help in the future.

My Reflections of September 11th, 2001

The morning of September 11th, 2001 began like any other ordinary day. I got up at seven, got ready for school, and caught the bus having no idea that the thought of killing thousands of people was going through the minds of terrorists. In one of my classes later that day, the teacher told us about what happened. He told us that a plane went through the World Trade Center. I was not sure what to think, or what to say, I just sat there thinking while everyone was either crying around me or just sitting there appearing to do the same as me. I got home about 45 minutes later, and my mom and my little sister were sitting in the living room eyes glued to the television. My mom looked at me and said “another plane just hit!” At this time I felt the emotion building up and I just started sobbing. I watched CNN for the rest of the night, hoping and praying that the attacks were finished. I saw people jumping out of windows from the buildings and I saw people running everywhere trying to find loved ones. This continued for the next few weeks and CNN became my new favourite station to watch. It was the saddest real life situation I ever had to witness from any distance.
